DURHAM INSTITUTE FOR INTERDISCIPLINARY PERFORMANCE RESEARCH (DIIPR)

Welcome to DIIPR!

making | practice | encounter

A place-rooted laboratory where sustained artistic inquiry and community grow through performance-making, practice, and encounter.

DIIPR (pronounced Dipper) is an emerging artist-led performance research laboratory rooted in Durham, North Carolina. Founded by performance artist, director, and artist-scholar Johann Montozzi-Wood, the initiative is being developed in collaboration with local artists and creative partners.

DIIPR seeks to bring together artists, performers, and creative practitioners interested in exploring how performance is made, what it can know, and what kinds of relation it can make possible.

Through artistic laboratories, workshops, training, and collaborative projects, DIIPR aims to support interdisciplinary experimentation, embodied practice, and the development of original work. Artists are invited to explore ideas, deepen their practices, develop works-in-progress, and share discoveries through performance and encounter.

DIIPR is beginning to envision The Little DIIPR Theater, an intimate 50-seat venue for experimental performances, works-in-progress, and gatherings that bring artists and audiences into conversation.

Interested in making, practicing, and experimenting with other Durham artists? DIIPR is in its early stages of development and I’d love to hear from artists interested in being part of what emerges.
